FENTON (WJRT) -
(09/13/12) - Law enforcement from all over the state will be in Fenton Friday to pay their respects to a fallen police officer from the Fenton area.
Officer Patrick O'Rourke worked for the West Bloomfield Police Department, but grew up and lived in the Fenton area.
He was shot and killed while responding to a domestic disturbance call on Sunday. The gunman killed himself following a 20 hour standoff.
"We don't have a number, but we're expecting 2-3,000 people. We have a lot of vehicles, a lot of police vehicles," said Sgt. Dave Reinfelder with the Fenton Police Department.
And it's all to honor their fallen brother in blue. A motorcade of law enforcement will escort fallen officer Patrick O'Rourke to the St. John the Evangelist Parish in Fenton Friday morning.
With so many people coming, the Fenton Police Department is preparing to re-route traffic on a few main roads.
"The main street that's going to be shut down is Adelaide Street from North Road to Silver Lake Road - that's going to be completely shut down," he said.
Lincoln, Jefferson and wood streets will also be closed starting at 7 a.m. North Road Elementary School is closing so their parking lot can be used for overflow parking.
Even though O'Rourke wasn't working with the Fenton Police Department when he was shot in the line of duty, they want to pay their respects and help honor this hometown hero.
"We all fear this, we all want to go home at the end of the day, that's our main goal, but we want to keep the community safe at the same time," Reinfelder said. "When something like this happens, it really hits home, it really makes you think twice."
Roads will be shut down until the end of funeral services.
