Public forum held after Milton Hall investigation

SAGINAW (WJRT) -

(09/17/12) - A controversial decision by the Saginaw county prosecutor still has the community talking.

Last week, Mike Thomas ruled, the police officers who shot and killed Milton Hall in a plaza parking lot would not face criminal charges.

Hall was hit by 11 bullets and fired at 47 times.

Police say he threatened them and refused to put down a knife.

Monday, another public forum on the case was planned at Word of Faith Church in Saginaw at 6 p.m.

The public forum will include witnesses to the shooting.

Nearly 500 people are expected to attend Monday night's public forum at Word of Faith Church. Congressman John Conyers will hear from witnesses who were at the plaza on July 1.

"Having congressman Conyers here helps us to know that there's a bigger arena of justice than what we have seen," said Pastor Hurley Coleman with Coleman Temple COGIC.

"What it will do is take this to the national level. We believe that based on what has happened in Saginaw will certainly elevate the conversation of what needs to take place about what we perceive as well as others a national epidemic," said Gary Loster, spokesperson for Concerned Citizens of Saginaw.

Loster has been following the investigation. He says he hopes Conyers visit sheds light on what he's calling a serious problem.

"We want charges brought by the federal government. Number two it highlights in my opinion the need for resources, for training of police officers and those kind of issues. Resources in terms of funds. We need to take another look at policing, constitutional based policing how our police perform on the streets, how they interact with people who have mental issues," he explained.

Several pastors will be in attendance Monday night.

"Justice may take a while and it may go through several channels but ultimately justice will prevail," Coleman said.
