Former Davison Twp. resident, business owner donates 100 acres to community

(09/18/12) - A generous gift from a community member is going to mean endless opportunities for both kids and adults in the area.

Former Davison Township resident and business Bob Williams is donating more than 100 acres to Davison Township, and plans are already underway to turn it into something special.

Williams and his family now split their time between Petoskey and Florida, so they don't need this property any more.

Williams announced Tuesday afternoon that he's donating all of it to the community.

"It's something everybody has to have the opportunity back here to enjoy," Williams said.

The plan is to turn this into a nature park and learning center, and it's something Davison schools are looking forward to.

"We're talking about a possible amphitheater, a retreat center to do field trips for kids from other school districts, it's going to be really, really exciting," said Eric Lieske, superintendent for Davison Community Schools.

And students think so too. Davison freshman Morgan McGrail says this is somewhere she can picture herself spending some time with her brush and canvas.

"I like how we're going to be able to have all this extra room, like to have my little brother come play or come here and have a field trip or whatever, I'm going to want to come here and paint a lot I'm trying to do the Mona Lisa," McGrail said.

This project is still being developed, and the township is hoping for community input during the process.
