Islamic Center hosts 'Day of Dignity'

Posted: Updated:

(09/22/12) - This Flint Islamic Center helped people in need this weekend. They provided food and other necessities to families who are struggling.

It's called the 'Day of Dignity', and it was held at the Community Outreach For Family and Youth, also known as the COFY center.

This is the third year for the event.

Many of the volunteers are young people, high school and college students, who just wanted to help.

"To any other youth watching, it's not too late to help out your community, whether it is your Flint community or religious community, it is really important to give back because that is what we are here for, to help each other here," said youth group member Shereen Baig.

"Just help out your community because it is a rewarding feeling because we are all privileged," said Deena Ahmed, also a youth group member.

Their goal was to help hundreds of families.
