FLINT (WJRT) -

(09/22/12) - General Motors made a big commitment to education this weekend.

The G.M. Foundation awarded Kettering University a $110,000 grant.

The award was presented at the kick-off of the competitive season for the FIRST Robotics teams in the state.

And what better way to celebrate the grant, then with a robotics basketball competition that put their education to good use.

"At the end of the day, the more engineers, the innovators that are out there trained, the more people we can select to support us as we move forward as innovators in the automotive industry," said Gerald Johnson, a GM manufacturing manager.

"By investing the University in this way, they ensure that pipeline. The best and the brightest coming out to be able to pursue a career in engineering," said Robert McMahan, the president of Kettering University.

GM says the grant is designed to keep students on the path to innovation and leadership.
