(09/25/12) - The Salvation Army held a big food giveaway Tuesday at its downtown Flint headquarters.
Hundreds of people were lined up for several blocks - stretching all the way to Court Street. The line started forming at 4:30 a.m.
More than 250 families received a variety of canned foods, along with fresh fruit, vegetables and bread.
The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan and The Greater Flint Sunrise Rotary Club helped sponsor the event.
"Well, when we have the money and the funding available, the needs are always there. It's just the matter of getting the funding to buy the food from the Food Bank. And through the Rotary Club this time and the Salvation Army, we are able to do this," said Ginger Virkler, Salvation Army advisory committee member.
This was the second of two food giveaways made possible by grant money from the Sunrise Rotary Club.
