The suspended Buena Vista Township police officer accused of killing a pregnant woman made a brief court appearance Monday.
SAGINAW (WJRT) -
(09/27/12) - It was the third day of testimony in the Ken Bluew murder trial.
The suspended Buena Vista Township police officer is accused of strangling his pregnant girlfriend.
Thursday, the lead investigator took the stand and outlined how the case unfolded and how the evidence led him back to Bluew.
Sean Waterman, who serves as acting chief with the Buena Vista Police Department, was the sergeant at the time of Webb's death. He was on call the night her body was found.
In his testimony, he explained that he read Webb's suicide note. Once he checked Webb's cell phone records, he found Bluew's number in her call logs. Then Bluew mentioned that he had known Webb for several years and that they talked from time to time. Waterman stated that Bluew's number was listed as "Ken Cop Boo."
In his testimony, he mentioned how nervous Bluew seemed.
When Waterman told Webb's family that she committed suicide, he said Mrs. Webb said there's no way she would do that to herself.
He asked who was the father of Webb's child, and that's when he was told 'Ken Bluew with the Buena Vista Police Department.'
Waterman said he had to sit down because he was sick to his stomach. He felt it was important to get investigators involved, including Michigan State Police.
"I believe that I had talked with Sgt. Ogg later on after this started going. I don't think the reports had started yet. At least mine hadn't been and there had been suggestions that we password protect this for the time being to not allow access to other agencies, other officers," Waterman said.
Barry Nelson with Saginaw County 911 also testified Thursday. He explained how a radio check works.
The prosecution argued that Bluew was not able to be reached by radio for more than an hour.
The defense attorney argued that it's not unusual to miss a radio check.
Family and friends of Webb are expected to testify in the coming days.
