(10/01/12) - Buena Vista Township Police are asking for help in their search for a missing man.
Eric Franks turned 40 years old last month, but he hasn't been seen since March of 2011.
The Ohio man was in Mid-Michigan to visit his estranged girlfriend, who is the mother of Franks' child. Investigators believe she is one of the last people to see Franks.
He was last seen at the Miller Motel in Bridgeport Township, where he checked in sometime in late 2010. He checked out of the motel in March 2011 and has not been seen or heard from since.
The family of Eric Franks filed a missing persons report in November of 2011, eight months after Franks was last seen in Mid-Michigan.
"We have no idea where he is at," said Buena Vista Township Police Chief Sean Waterman. "He could be laying low, and not wanting to be found, I'm not sure."
Waterman says the estranged girlfriend and her husband have been questioned and have cooperated with the investigation.
"We have no evidence of foul play at this point," he said.
Police are also looking for Franks' car, a 2001 tan Chevy Malibu with Ohio registration.
"We have put out messages across the state, we have checked the lower 48 to see if his car has been run by any law enforcement agency, and as of this date, no one has run him across the United States," Waterman said.
Monday was the first day of bow hunting deer season in Michigan, and investigators are asking hunters to be on the lookout for anything as they make their way through the woods of Mid-Michigan.
Waterman says he has been in close contact with Franks' family in Ohio.
"The family obviously wants some closure one way or another," he said.
If you think you seen Eric Franks sometime over the past year and a half, you are asked to give police a call.
