Voice of the Voter: Genesee County

GENESEE COUNTY (WJRT) -

(10/02/12) - Mid-Michigan voters will be paying close attention to the Presidential campaign over the next five weeks.

They say they're still waiting to hear specifics from the candidate's plans on how to get the country's economy moving again.

Not all Genesee County voters have made up their minds yet. That's why the next month is so crucial.

"We are still looking for things to pick up because business is slow," said Joel Visnyak.

Joel is a produce vendor at Flint's farmers market. He hopes whoever occupies the White House next can get America moving forward. He's heard plenty of talk, now he'd like to see a little more action. "I want a plan, they promise us these percentages, these numbers, but I want a plan, how's it going to work. I don't think I've really heard that yet."

The state's most recent unemployment rate is 9.2 percent - that's why jobs remain a top priority for Flint-area voters.

"I would like to see the economy pick back up in the manufacturing area and I'd like to see more jobs manufactured back in America. I'd like to see us making more of our own products," said Mary Kathy Atkinson of Flint Township.

"Number one is the economy, number is gas prices and three getting the country back on track," said Eric Middleton.

President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney still have a lot of work to do to sway the Michigan votes still up for grabs.

"Both of them are questionable, so I guess I'm still not sure who I'm going to vote for," said Margaret Beatenhead.

"I like some things about each other of them and that's true anywhere. I haven't made up my mind," said Clara Brooks of Clio.

People who are still undecided like Clara Brooks are looking forward to the debates to help them make their choice.
