Security companies are paying up

Posted: Updated:

(10/04/12) - It's no secret the city of Flint is facing tough economic times, and the police and fire departments have been cut.

City hall says they can't afford to lose any more money by sending first responders on false alarms. The city is now billing security companies for false alarms.

There has been a law on the books for years in Flint charging security companies for false alarms, but the bills didn't start going out until this July.

In July, security companies were billed more than $31,000 for false alarms.
