MICHIGAN (WJRT) -

(10/05/12) - The U.S. Labor Department reports jobless numbers fell to 7.8 percent in September and 114,000 new jobs were created.

But still, thousands of people in Michigan are out of work.

According the latest jobless numbers, unemployment in Michigan is at 9.4 percent.

Many people have been out of work for so long they have stopped looking work or have settled for part time jobs.

On Friday, Tory Johnson stopped by ABC12. She is a Good Morning America contributor who offers advice on how to save money and jump start careers.

She said some job hunters make the mistake of starting and ending their job search online.

"The majority of your efforts have to be placed on connecting with other people directly. So you might find the position online and apply to it online. But you do not stop there. You find someone who works at the company. Look at your own network. Cold call if you don't know anyone."
