Saginaw community teams up to end gang violence

SAGINAW (WJRT) -

(10/06/12) - Many families living in Saginaw County are at the breaking point.

They're fed up with gang violence and crime in their neighborhoods.

Starting Saturday, county leaders started a new campaign to reach kids before the gangs do.

Saginaw County leaders are starting a month long anti-violence anti-gang campaign.

The campaign started Saturday with a summit at the Dow center.

Their goal is to reach kids early.

"There are a lot of kids who are on the fence and are foot soldiers for gangs, no one has ever talked to them about gangs and the gang life style and consequences," said 70th District Court Judge M.T Thompson. "The other problem we have in Saginaw is a lack of options. We have to give kids options to gangs they have to have education and opportunities. They have jobs."
