Superheroes raise money for neglected, abused children

Posted: Updated:

(10/06/12) - Downtown Flint was one of the safest places to be this Saturday morning, all thanks to a few hundred caped crusaders.

It was all a part of the second annual Superhero Fun Run.

Proceeds from the run benefits the Weiss Advocacy Center. It provides intervention and assistance for neglected and abused children.

"So important for kids to have someone who they can count on and we feel like superheros are images that everyone can relate too. And all kids need a hero, but especially, kids who had abuse and neglect in their lives," said Marcia Franks with the Weiss Advocacy Center.

Last year's run brought in more than $22,000.

ABC12's Angie Hendershot was proud to take part in the race.
