(10/08/12) - Two hundred fruit trees that were planted in a community orchard survived the hot summer and now it's time to celebrate.
A harvest fest is planned for this Saturday. Organizers say it will be a family-oriented event, with a maze for children and pumpkin carving.
Fifty trees in the orchard have been adopted and more sponsors are needed.
"We're having what we call the blessing of the trees. We've got our families coming out and everybody who has adopted a tree is going to come out. We're going to put their name tags on them and they can label their tree, get to know it a little better and just sit with the tree a little while," said Harvest Fest organizer Jacky King.
The Harvest Fest is Saturday, Oct.13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The orchard is on Detroit Street between Carpenter Road and Coldwater Road in Mt. Morris Township.
