(10/09/12) - Tuesday, the jury in the murder trial of a suspended Buena Vista Township Police officer heard from the defendant for the first time.
Prosecutors played an interview police recorded with Ken Bluew before he was arrested.
Bluew is charged with strangling his pregnant girlfriend, Jennifer Webb, in August of 2011. Investigators believe Bluew killed her to avoid paying child support.
Lt. Jason teddy with Michigan State Police is one of the lead investigators in this case. He took the stand Tuesday.
Teddy interviewed Bluew last August before his arrest. The jury listened to Bluew's response when Bluew was asked if he was father of Webb's child.
"Is there a chance you're the father of the child? Teddy asked. "No," Bluew said.
"You never had a sexual relationship with her?" Teddy asked. "No," Bluew replied.
Bluew didn't mention that he knew Webb until her ID was found. He was asked how he did not recognize Webb's body.
"Given the position she was in. She was lying on her back. But the way her head was, when I saw the body, I said 'OK, body,'" Bluew said.
The jury also looked at text messages that were exchanged between Bluew and Webb. In a message from Bluew, she said, "Did you break the ice or just going to drop an atomic bomb?"
Bluew's response: "LOL, nope, not yet. Still working on it."
Web says, "I'm sure it's not easy to decide how. Were things bad where you could say things were really bad and I strayed. I just found out I'm having a baby."
"Not really," Bluew says.
Bluew was asked if he had a relationship with Webb. His response was no.
