(10/10/12) - If you're looking for a job, grab your resume. You might find work in Birch Run.
The village's Chamber of Commerce is holding a job fair Wednesday and there are quite a few jobs up for grabs.
The Birch Run Chamber of Commerce says many businesses are having a hard time finding people to work. They say this job fair is the first one the area has had in a long time.
"We've got jobs, and some of those employees are looking for 30 positions," said Mike Szukhent of the Birch Run Chamber of Commerce.
Birch Run is well known for shopping, but it's not just the retail stores that are hiring there.
"They are not all in the premium outlets. We've got restaurants and hotels that are looking for staff. Some of those positions are full time," Szukhent said.
At the Comfort Inn Hotel, a long line of job seekers eagerly waited for their turn to meet face to face with potential employers.
"It's definitely a benefit, you know, you get to make that first impression," said Justin Lackney, job hunter.
Justin Lackney is hoping that first impression leads to a job.
"I'd like to leave here possibly with an assistant management position. If nothing else at least a sales associate position, so I can get my foot in the door," he said.
Even with the number of positions available, the turnout suggests the competition is fierce.
"That's how the world is right now. Every job out there, there is about 5-6 people out there looking for it," Lackney said.
But many here say they can't afford to be intimated.
"I'm confident in my abilities, and my strive to work," said job hunter Lindsay Lawson. "You're not going to get anywhere unless you work hard, right?"
The job fair continues until 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Comfort Inn Hotel on Dixie Highway.
