Genesee County couple charged with Saginaw County break-ins

SWAN CREEK TOWNSHIP (WJRT) -

(10/10/12) - A Genesee County couple is behind bars, accused of trying to steal guns to buy drugs.

They face several charges from a break-in that happened in Saginaw County.

Aron O'Callaghan, 32, and his girlfriend Ashley Goold, 24, face a list of charges including criminal enterprise, home invasion, safe breaking and firearms charges.

On Saturday, a man returned home to find Goold sitting in his driveway along M-52 in Swan Creek Township. "And she's honking the horn. So he pulls in and she asks him for directions," explains Saginaw County Sheriff William Federspiel.

Federspiel says when Goold left, the homeowner figured out what she was really up to.

"He sees his stuff laying all over the place. Guns, obviously somebody had broken into his house and got interrupted," Federspiel said.

The homeowner followed her, called 911, and deputies quickly arrested her.

Then on Tuesday, O'Callaghan was tracked down in Genesee County.

He had been paroled from prison for similar crimes, a year ago. "O'Callaghan went back to what he knew best. He is not someone who is choosing to be a productive member of society," Federspiel said.

The couple is also suspected in a Bridgeport Township break-in. That allowed investigators to charge them with 'criminal enterprise'. Federspiel says that essentially means they were making a business out of stealing.

In their case, Federspiel believes O'Callaghan and Goold planned to buy drugs after selling the guns. "And they'll be back out on the streets of the city of Flint and the city of Saginaw where people will shoot and kill each other and he'll walk off with cash in his pocket."

All the charges they face are felony counts. The 'safe breaking' charge carries a potential penalty of life in prison.
