(10/12/12) - Saginaw police are investigating a shooting death on the city's
south side.
34-year-old Dion Jacobs died in the 2700 block of Van Etten around 9 Thursday
night.
There have been a few deadly shootings in the neighborhood recently. The folks
who live there want answers.
A sign stands in the same neighborhood where Dion Jacobs was shot and killed
Thursday.
"Right now Saginaw's hurting real bad. It's probably going to be a shooting
every week until something is done," said Leroy Shephard.
Shephard has lived there for almost ten years. He heard the gunshots.
"I had my police scanner on. Before I heard the scanner, I would say I heard
anywhere from like eight to 12 shots and then heard on the scanner that someone
was down on the corner of Van Etten," he said.
Police are relying on witnesses.
"I feel bad, but I'm used to it. We have a lot of shootings and I got two boys.
They go out and play outside during the day time and I have them come inside at
night because it could happen to my boys," said Jennifer Rossas.
In March, 20-year-old Alan Hutson, known as Shane, was shot to death just a few
blocks away on Randolph Street. Balloons placed there by Shane's friends still
mark the spot where he lost his life.
Neighbors blame the continuing violence on gangs and drugs.
"Whenever we get an unfamiliar cars that comes through here, two or
three times we get the license plate number and call PD because it's too many
kids out here and without the kids we won't have nothing later on in life,"
Shephard said.
If you have any information, call Saginaw Police or Crime Stoppers.
Police say they have no suspects in custody at this time.
