(10/18/12) - U.S. Senate Candidate Pete Hoekstra made a stop in Midland Thursday afternoon.
He met with small business owners at the Midland Resort and Convention Center.
There was a very small turnout. Hoestra focused on two major topics: Jobs and the economy.
He hoped that Senator Debbie Stabenow, who is running for re-election, would join him in the debate.
He said he sent her an invitation.
When ABC12 contacted Nate Byer, who's with Stabenow's office, we were told that Stabenow didn't receive an invitation.
Byer sent a statement saying it makes it hard to call it a debate when she didn't receive an invitation.
Local business leaders served on a panel. They asked questions about healthcare and government spending.
Hoekstra said if he's elected, he'll focus on improving the economy.
"It's about getting this economy moving again. It's about embracing American energy. Getting America to be energy independent. If elected, on every decision that I make in Washington, will be is this going to make it easier for people to create jobs to get this economy moving again? Getting people back to work," he said.
Hoekstra also focused on No Child Left Behind during his visit.
