(10/22/12) - Bay City is loosening its belt for the third annual "Fall Downtown Restaurant Week."
"We have 13 participating this time, and it's a $6, $12, and $24 format. Everybody from the Steinhouse to Mulligan's to Waterfront Market, a real mix of businesses," said Candace Bales, Bay City Downtown Management board director.
Those big discounts are designed to bring in big business, and most important, a big rush of new customers.
"Knowledge is power. Sometimes people don't simply know what's here. We give them a reason to come and experience it, and we know that they're going to come back," Bales said.
One of the featured spots is the Stock Pot Diner on Washington. Vinny Stuart's joint has been around for 24 years. He views restaurant week as a time for all of his neighbors to work together.
"The more they bring in the better it is for me, and the more I bring, the better off it is for them. We're all in it together to make downtown strive," Stuart said.
As for the menu, it's American with a heavy Greek influence.
"A Coney dog, gyro sandwich, and they love the breakfast. The double bacon burger. It's the heart attack special. If they eat all that, they're full," Stuart said.
