ABC12 News has learned Nexteer Automotive is planning a new investment into an electronic steering system that is being considered for the Saginaw County operation.
A Nexteer spokesperson says the company is currently deciding on where to put the $60 million investment, either into the Buena Vista Township facility, or in Mexico.
The approval to amend the Michigan Economic Growth Authority tax credit is considered a positive sign for the Saginaw County plant. The new investment will bring 325 jobs to the location that is selected.
Buena Vista Township Supervisor Dwayne Parker says the possibility of adding jobs at Nexteer is the type of news the region has been hoping for.
Tiffany Brookins opened Mama's Kitchen with her husband last December. She says the restaurant and catering service has done a lot of business with Nexteer employees, and 325 more would help her business.
Nexteer says it will make a decision on where to put the new work - either Saginaw County or Mexico - by the end of the year, or early next year.
