(10/26/12) - Heavy rains this past August left many Mid-Michigan crops destroyed.
Friday, because of the damage, the U.S. Department of Agriculture declared Bay and Saginaw Counties disaster areas.
Arenac, Genesee, Gladwin, Gratiot, Midland, Shiawassee and Tuscola counties were also named as contiguous disaster areas.
The designation makes emergency low-interest loans available to eligible farmers.
They already were available throughout Michigan, due to spring freezes and summer drought.
