(11/08/12) - No shaving cream? No problem. It's 'No Shave November,' and for the fifth year in a row, staff members at Camp Copneconic in Fenton Township are growing "mo's" or "Novem-Beard's" to help send kids to camp.
"Everyone really gets into the spirit of the whole thing. You've got to be clean shaven on Nov. 1, but throughout the month, it's going to get harrier and harrier," said Tom Correll, Camp Copneconic resident manager.
Within Camp Copneconic, there's a secret society that has formed. It's not just the Mo-Bro's wearing these luscious lip jackets. There's even a whole section of Mo-Sisters.
"It took a lot of work, but it's finally coming in," said Elizabeth Hudson, staff member.
"It looks great, I think.Yes, it does," said staff member Alyssa Kwasman.
Along with the Flint YMCA's Partner with Youth Campaign, Camp Copneconic has several fundraisers planned throughout the month - including a disc golf tournament on Nov. 18.
"We're shooting for around $5,000. Every $250 sends one kid to overnight summer camp here. We want to send at least 20 kids to camp just through the efforts this month," Correll said.
One week in, those stashes and beards are starting to slowly fill in. Each has a style of its own.
"It would have to be Tom Selleck from Magnum PI," said Hunter Comack, staff member.
"I'm going with the classic 1800's look, some of the President's, Abraham Lincoln," said staff member Michael Buckley.
'No Shave November' wraps up with a big dinner and shave-off auction on Nov.26 at Nuevo Vallarta in Grand Blanc.
"We could be yours. Come out and buy us at auction, maybe shave some lightning bolts," Buckley said.
"Yes, I could be yours. Come take this off my face and there's this nice baby face you'll see underneath. Please, please, please," Comack said.
