Testimony continued Thursday in Frank Choate murder trial

(11/08/12) - Testimony continued Thursday in the murder trial for the man accused of murdering 86-year-old Marie Warren in Lapeer County.

The focus Thursday morning was on evidence prosecutors and police say links the suspect, Frank Choate, to her October 2006 beating death.

"There was a fair amount of blood on the sheet," says Michigan State Police Crime Lab Analyst David Bicigo. He inspected that bed sheet from Warren's home.

"I found areas that suggest possibly a bloody hand print," he says.

Police and prosecutors have said it is one single hair that connects Choate to Warren's.

"I noted there were hairs on that sheet," Bicigo says.

Choate was just recently charged with murder, although he had been in jail on charges stemming from a break-in at Warren's home.

Prosecutors have said police were limited in how many samples they could first send for testing and it took time to get that match.

Warren's grandson, Jason Brace, testified Wednesday. He lived with her, but was away to bow hunt. When he returned home?

"I noticed the heating pad was on the porch so I knew something was not right. I went straight to my grandma's bedroom and there was blood all over the bed," Brace said.

Brace said she'd been taking a blood thinner. He started calling hospitals to try and figure out where she was.

Brace said he was interviewed by police about 10 times and provided DNA samples as authorities tried to determine if he was involved in her murder.
