OAKLAND COUNTY (WJRT) -

(11/09/12) - The Oakland County man, suspected in two dozen roadway shootings, now faces dozens of new charges.

Raulie Casteel, of Wixom, went before a judge Friday afternoon.  He was formally charged by video.

Casteel was physically in Livingston County where he was first charged Wednesday.  He faces six counts, connected to one incident, there.

He now faces 60 additional charges tied to shootings in Oakland County.  They include nine charges of assault with intent to murder. There were other assault and weapons charges mixed in - all felonies.

Police called the shootings "acts of terror."

The new counts stem from incidents October 16, 17 and 18 - one in Commerce Township and the rest in Wixom.

The 43-year-old father and husband is being held without bond on the nine assault with intent to murder charges.

Police say they have physical evidence connecting Casteel to the crimes.  Bullet fragments were found in vehicles, at least one spent shell casing in the windshield wiper of Casteel's Chevy Malibu and then a handgun gun taken from his home matching that evidence, according to investigators.

Wixom's Public Safety Director Clarence Goodlein says he believes the charges will stick.

"Based upon the evidence we have in the form of statements that were taken by the witnesses and the physical evidence we recovered," Goodlein says.

Casteel remains in the Livingston County Jail.  Bond in Livingston County is set at $2 million.

During his hearing Friday, Casteel politely answered questions from his attorney Charlie Groh.

"Let's waive the reading and I'll wait until later this afternoon and we can discuss then," he said when Groh asked if he wanted the details of the charges read.

Casteel stood silent as Groh outlined some of his personal life when it came time to talk about bond.

Casteel was a stay at home dad and has been unemployed for about two years, according to Groh.  Casteel's daughter is two.

His wife has, most recently, been the bread winner.  She and other members of Casteel's family were back in court Friday.  They sat in the back row and left immediately after his hearing.

Groh told the court Casteel and his wife moved back to Michigan, to Wixom, about five months ago.  He had once been employed by the Department of Energy in Kentucky.

Groh wouldn't say whether defense attorneys will request testing to determine if he's competent to stand trial or be held criminally responsible.

"I've met with him once.  He hasn't even seen police reports.  He's seen absolutely nothing," Groh says.

Authorities suspect Casteel in 24 random shootings spanning four counties. Charges have not yet been issued in Ingham or Shiawassee counties.

Casteel, with has no criminal history, now faces a total of 66 felony charges.
