SWARTZ CREEK (WJRT) -

(11/10/12) - A Mid-Michigan community is rallying behind a Swartz Creek teenager. Before October, Caleb Griffin was just like any other high school boy.

He played baseball, soccer and was even into bull riding.

On Oct. 6, that all changed. Caleb lost his lower right leg in a car accident.

He is now home after weeks at the C.S Mott Children's Hospital at the University of Michigan.

Saturday night, his friends and family hosted a spaghetti benefit dinner to help with his recovery at the Swartz Creek United Methodist Church.

In the first hour, almost 600 people came through the line and donated to help with Caleb's recovery.

Organizers were excited about the turn out. "His goal was to get a rodeo scholarship and we're here trying to help him fulfill those dreams. This is just a little hiccup in the road, for this young man this is nothing and he looks at the glass half full, not half empty," said Terra Hanks.
