(11/14/12) - Thursday is a big day for hunters across Mid-Michigan, and Wednesday night, they were busy making last minute preparations before they head outside.
Thousands will head into the woods Thursday morning to snag their first deer of the season. For many, it's something they've been waiting for all year.
"I think I have a good chance of seeing something," said Kelly Good, while heading into Dunham's in Lapeer for a few last minute items.
For some hunters, opening day is near and dear to them and their entire family.
"It's been in our family, we do it every year, being out in the woods, there's no other feeling, it's the best feeling out there," said Cody Kesler in Lapeer.
And if they're on point, they could end up at Ray C's buck pole in Lapeer. They claim their buck pole is the biggest in the state.
"It looks like a rock concert for deer hunters," said Ray Clemens. "We're pretty geeked and excited about it. We figure we had roughly 2,000 people last year."
But at the end of the day, it's all about spending some quality time with mother nature.
"Being out there and getting away, being able to turn the phone off, enjoy the mother nature and all the animals and just relax," Good said.
Ray C's buck pole opens at dawn and ends at 8 p.m. Thursday.
