(11/20/12) - He was shot to death in broad daylight. Tuesday afternoon, Saginaw Police are still looking for his killer.
Saginaw Police confirmed the 16-year-old was Walter Riley III.
His mother isn't ready to talk on-camera, but she is begging community members to step up and find her son's killer.
A picture, a cross decorated with flowers and balloons all mark the spot where Walter Riley III took his last breath.
"I think about the time I heard the gunshots, it was like 3:15 in the afternoon," said neighbor Chad Davis.
Walter was shot in broad daylight.
A short time later, Davis left his Rust Avenue home, headed for work.
"Looking out the backseat window and happened to see a body laying over there. I asked, I rode past, I wasn't for sure at first," Davis said.
Davis and his family tried to help the former Saginaw High School student, but it was too late.
It's a memory Chad can't seem to shake. Flashing lights, crime scene tape and the face of the teenager.
Aside from geography, Walter's murder hits close to home.
"I've been thinking about it a lot lately. I mean, it makes me wonder because I have a 15-year-old son myself," Davis said.
In a neighborhood where there are more boarded up homes than places where people live, Davis sometimes questions his decision to raise a family here.
"It makes you wonder how safe are you in your neighborhood? I mean, you can't sit outside, you're not safe behind your own doors. I mean, it makes you wonder," he said.
Tuesday, Riley's family finalized funeral arrangements. They're being handled by Paradise Funeral Chapel in Saginaw.
Visitation and the funeral service will take place next Tuesday.
If you have any information about Riley's death, you're urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-422-JAIL.
