Friends, family seek Justice for murdered 2 year old

METAMORA (WJRT) -

(11/20/12) - The memory of a 2-year-old little girl was burning bright in Metamora Township Tuesday night.

Friends and family lit candles and lanterns to remember Lily Furneaux. The 2 year old was murdered two years ago on Nov. 20, 2010.

Renee King was sentenced to life in prison for the murder and sexual assault of Lily, who was her stepdaughter.

More than 200 people came out Tuesday night to remember her. They're taking a stand against child abuse.

"I woke up this morning and lived every second of the day two years ago like it was yesterday. As a grandparent, I not only hurt for the loss of my grandchild, I hurt for my daughter because when your children hurt, you hurt," said Lynette Furneaux, Lily's grandmother.

Lauren Furneaux still remembers that phone call she received the night her daughter died.

"I got a phone call saying that there was an accident and to get to the hospital right away and by the time I got there, she was gone, and we later found out that she died of over 20 multiple blunt force trauma to the head," she said.

Lauren hopes sharing Lily's story will help prevent this from happening to another child.

Everyone is letting Lily's memory live on by singing Christmas carols and lighting candles.

"I think it's amazing. Lily has a lot of supporters and her family has a lot of supporters. Big support system," said Kim Ceccarbilli who was at the event.

"We are going to make a difference in her name and nobody will ever forget Lily and we're going to save children's lives and I will fight until my dying breath to do that," Lauren said.

Sky lanterns were set off. They serve as a reminder of an angel gone too soon. Even though Lily is gone, her family says her light shines bright.

"If you can see child abuse happening, speak up because you never know, it could save a life. It could have saved Lily's. We didn't know who to talk to so speak up if you can," said Michael Farneaux, Lily's uncle.
