Last minute food shoppers hit the Flint Farmers' Market

FLINT (WJRT) -

(11/21/12) - If you don't have everything you need for that big meal Thursday, you may want to think about getting to the store soon.

The Flint Farmers' Market would not typically be open on a Wednesday, but it was this week and it was pretty busy.

"People are buying a lot of kale, a lot of spinach, lots of salad," says Joanna Lehrman with Edible Flint Co-Op.

"People are buying all sorts of things," Lehrman says.

"We've been pretty steady," says Bruce Penzien of Penzien's Produce.

There is plenty to pick from.

"Everything but the turkey," he jokes.

Flint resident Kelly Lukes was in luck.

"We got sweet potatoes, baked potatoes and red potatoes," Lukes says.

"Now we're going to get the turkey and off for the day to start cooking."

Nancy Anagnostopoulos, at the Farmers' Market Bakery, says it's been a record breaking year for butter croissants.

The pumpkin pie, with cream cheese icing, has been selling well too.

Outside?

The people at Charlie's Smokin' Bar-B-Q are cooking up some non-traditional meals including ribs, brisket and pulled pork.

"Charlie's cooking his greens today for that country meal," says Sandra Weston.

"We've got a lot of pre-orders and we're waiting for people to get off work," Weston says.
