Flint school board agrees with audit showing deficit, makes plans to move forward

Posted: Updated:

(11/21/12) - The Flint School Board officially approved an audit Wednesday night that says their budget is millions of dollars in the red.

Last week, the school board looked at the results of a recent audit.

It says the district is facing a $4 million budget shortfall.

Wednesday evening, the board accepted the outcome of the audit. Their next step is to use that information to move forward.

This year's deficit was more than projected, so the board members will have to amend the financial plan to make the up the money.

"It's a tool that we will use to further promote programs, make decisions on how we structure our district and how we go about educating children," said Antoinette Lockett, the school board president.

It was also the first school board meeting since superintendent Linda Thompson announced she's retiring.

The board officially accepted her resignation.
