(11/26/12) - We are learning more about a weekend stabbing that left a man dead in Mt. Pleasant.

Monday, an Isabella County judge formally charged 25-year-old Curtis Richard Leachman for the murder of 20-year old Tyrone Dean Stanley.

The stabbing happened Saturday morning in the 100 block of South Main Street, near Broadway in Mt. Pleasant.

Leachman faces life in prison. He has been charged with open murder and witness intimidation.

Police say Leachman was arrested shortly after Stanley was stabbed.

Officers found Stanley badly injured. He was taken to the hospital, where was pronounced dead.

We have confirmed that Leachman lived in the apartment building and that several people were around at the time of the stabbing.

A few of them told police they saw the Leachman and the Stanley fighting. Witnesses told police Stanley was stabbed sometime during the fight. Police tell us one witness reported that after the altercation, Leachman threatened to kill all of the witnesses.

It turns out this is not Leachman's first encounter with the law.

According to the Michigan Department of Corrections, he has served jail time for a few offenses - including home invasion, breaking and entering, and domestic violence.

Miranda Morrison says she dated Leachman. Their relationship ended a little over a year ago.

"I've known him since I was 13 years old. He was always sweet, nice and a romantic guy," she said.

She says Leachman was friends with the victim Stanley.

"He was a very good friend to Curtis and he always has been," she said. "I'm still confused on why he did what he did."

Many say Stanley's murder has shaken the community.

"It was a bit of a shock to find out something like this would happen here," said community member Jofus Smith.

A Facebook page has been setup in Stanley's memory. Already more than 600 people have liked the page and left comments to express their sympathy.

Leachman will remain in jail on a $1 million bond. He is scheduled to go before a judge again on Thursday.
