New legislation will crackdown on animal fighting

Posted: Updated:
MICHIGAN (WJRT) -

(11/27/12) - Gov. Rick Snyder is expected to sign a series of bills that will strengthen penalties for organized animal fighting.

Under the legislation just given final approval on Tuesday, properties involved in animal fighting could be declared a nuisance.

That move would allow authorities to padlock the property and help pave the way for the seizure and sale of everything inside.

The Humane Society supports the effort, saying laws like this will go a long way in ending dog fighting and cockfighting in our state.
