MIDLAND COUNTY (WJRT) -
(11/28/12) - There is a major development in the case of a missing Saginaw woman.
Authorities say a man they wanted to talk to in connection with the case committed suicide Tuesday.
The next day, they discovered the unidentified body of a woman near his Midland County home.
The body was found Wednesday afternoon in Edenville Township, just north of Sanford.
At this point, the Sheriff won't confirm if it is the body of 45-year-old Leigh Swanson.
Swanson has not been seen since Friday Nov. 16, after she left a home in Saginaw Township to go on a date with someone she met online.
She called her mother the following Sunday, saying she'll be home around 3 p.m., and no one's heard from her since.
Police tracked that phone call to a home in Sanford, and went to investigate.
"They got out of the car, the two deputies, they weren't out of the car for five seconds when they heard a loud boom, needless to say they thought it was a gun shot, they took cover," said Midland County Sheriff Jerry Nielson.
The Midland County sheriff says there will be an autopsy in the morning.
