GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP (WJRT) -

(11/29/12) - A firefighter narrowly escaped a collapsing wall fighting a fire at Grand Blanc Storage on Holly Road in Grand Blanc Township. The firefighter is OK, just shaken up a bit. The fire started just before 9 Thursday morning. Eighteen units inside one building are considered a complete loss.

Rob Wyatt is the property manager who lives on site with his three kids and wife. They were sleeping inside when a panicked knock at the door woke them up.

"A guy was storing his car, woke us up, ringing our door bell several times," Wyatt said.

That guy, according to Rob, was trying to start his corvette while it was in the storage unit and he says that's when the fire started.

"First I thought of the safety of my family and then the guy. I asked if he was OK and he was."

The fire was contained to one building, but spread to all 18 units, which are full and considered a complete loss.

Judy and Don Trevillan live nearby and have a motorhome parked next to the unit that caught fire. They heard loud explosions coming from the storage unit when they arrived shortly after the fire started.

"You feel helpless because you can't move it out of there. The trucks weren't here when we got here," Don said.

Though a lot of people lost their belongings in the fire, no one was hurt. The fire does appear to be accidental.
