Ten to 12 police officers will be hired, according to a press release from the city.

The positions are within the Flint Police Officer Association (FPOA) collective bargaining unit and are open to State of Michigan law enforcement officer certified or certifiable candidates.

"I think any additional help we can get right now, for the citizens, for response times, is going to help," says Flint Police Officers Association President Kevin Smith.

The jobs are funded by the Police and Fire Protection Millage passed earlier this month. The property tax increase will appear on the December tax roll.
