MIDLAND (WJRT) -

(12/05/12) - If you are not yet in the mood for Christmas, you should visit Midland. Renovations were just completed at Santa House, and Santa is glad to call it his home-away-from-home.

Santa House is dazzling on the outside and inside. The Midland Area Community Foundation raised $150,000 to help make it even more family-friendly.

"We added bathrooms, a new computer for the glockenspiel. We painted the outside of the house. We re-landscaped, did new carpet inside. So really, just fixing it up all the way around after 25 years of hard use," said Sharon Mortensen, president and CEO of the Midland Area Community Foundation. A new roof has also been added.

Last year, Santa House hosted about 25,000 visitors of all ages.

"People come from all around the state, visitors to the area certainly come by and see it and really, from all around the world," Mortensen said.

The Community Foundation has obviously earned a spot on Santa's "nice" list.

"It's a wonderful group of folks that brings the community together. It helps sponsor wonderful things. Santa loves to land in Midland. It's just like being home," Santa Claus said.

Santa even brought a couple of reindeer along - Comet and Baby Blitzen. They'll be at Santa House periodically until Dec. 23.

It's a great place for kids to let Santa know what's on their minds.

"The family comes in and they share their thoughts and it's a wonderful time there," Santa said.

"Every child is equal when they come here. Every child gets a chance to come through the Santa House. There's no money charged. They get a chance to sit on Santa's lap. So, regardless of their circumstances or background, every child is the same when they come to Santa House and they get to share in the wonderful season," Mortensen said.
