Salvation army collects toys at Walmart

Posted: Updated:

(12/8/12) - It takes a lot to fill up a truck. Especially when you are trying to fill it with toys for needy children.

But that is exactly what the salvation army did on Saturday.

They set up shop outside of Walmart stores in Mid-Michigan.

We caught up with the Salvation Army at the Grand Blanc Walmart. Volunteers handed out shopping lists to customers who went inside and purchased toys for kids.

Major Jon Augenstein of the Salvation Army believes that this event is crucial to making sure every kid has something to open on Christmas.

"This has been critically important. Last year, Walmart helped us with 2,000 toys with our angel tree, but we did not have enough toys we had to purchase more toys. This helps us use our dollars the best way we can."

You can still help out by stopping by the Salvation Army and picking up a toy list.
