Man arrested after drive-by shooting charged in victim's daughter's case

FLINT (WJRT) -

(12/13/12) - The man arrested for questioning, shortly after Monday's deadly drive-by shooting, has been charged, but not in that case.

A warrant was issued charging him with the alleged assault and battery of victim Vena Fant's daughter. We are not naming him, as it's not clear whether he's been formally charged in court yet.

"He was domestically violent to the daughter," says Darnell Miller, Fant's fiancé.

Miller says they were dating and Fant talked to him the same night she was killed.

"My fiancée told him that she no longer wanted him to date her daughter," Miller says.

Miller says less than 30 minutes later, someone had fired multiple shots into their home. He says he had made a quick trip to the credit union.

"By the time I drove back, my fiancée was dead," Miller says. "She dead for no reason at all."

Fant, 48, was sitting on the couch in their East Flint Park Boulevard home, according to Miller.

"That was my soul mate and my fiancée. We had plans to get married this coming year," he says.

Miller is now planning Fant's funeral. You can read funeral arrangements HERE.

Police are still investigating her murder. No charges have been issued.

Miller says his sister and young grandson were also in the home, but not injured.

Fant died eight years to the day her son was killed in a car accident in Shiawassee County.
