17 guns seized in Millington threat case - ABC 12 – WJRT – Flint, MI

(12/20/12) - We are learning new information Thursday about the threat that closed the Millington School District for the rest of the year.

Two freshman at Millington High School are in juvenile custody - one is charged with threatening terrorism.

We've learned that there were more than a dozen firearms in the home where the teenager accused of a threat of terrorism lives.

While police are saying very little about the investigation, we were able to speak with the 15-year-old boy's grandfather.

"My grandson is in jail for threatening the school," the grandfather said.

Also charged in this investigation is a 16 year old. He faces an assault with a dangerous weapon charge.

The 16-year-old's stepfather tells us the weapon was a razor from a broken pencil sharpener.

According to police, one of the 16-year-old's victims is the 15-year-old, who police say made the threat of terrorism against other students and the high school.

"He has complained about this, the bullying and this kind of thing at school. He just kind of went off," the grandfather said.

The grandfather says his grandson has been taking medication for depression and other conditions. He doesn't know who his grandson may have been targeting.

"I can't say for sure, because I have not seen the paperwork on this, the police have that," he said.

The man said they have his grandson's journal.

"He writes down a lot of things that he doesn't do. I cannot say for sure if he would have carried this out or not," he said.

When police came to the Arbela Township home on Tuesday, they removed several weapons.

"They took all my guns. All my guns are gone," the grandfather said. "I have 17 guns. I have a collection."

Police put the teenager in juvenile custody on Tuesday, and shortly after, Millington school officials decided to close school for the rest of the week. The man hopes his grandson, and others who suffer from mental illness, will get more help.

"We brush it off, a lot of people do, or put you in a special class or special ed, which sometimes, that's where they need to go, but they still get bullied," he said.

School officials found out about a possible terror plan from other students.

Both teenagers are being held without bond.
