German-built BMW cars are turning heads at auto show in Detroit

DETROIT (WJRT) -

(01/16/13) - BMW has long had a reputation for building some of the finest vehicles in the world.

That's what the German company emphasizes when it has the attention of American car lovers at the North American International Auto Show.

"North America is our biggest selling market in the world," said Ralph Huber, BMW product communications manager.

That's why BMW doesn't miss a chance to make a good impression in the Motor City. The 320i, which will be sold in the states this year, was easy to spot. The Germans said they tried to think like their American customers.

"I would like to have a 3-series but I would like an entrance level model, a model I can afford that suits my needs. This model would be right for you," Huber said.

But even the entry level model starts at $33,000. And if the Z4 roadster is more to your liking - your sticker price goes up to about $50,000.

"It is perfect for taking nice turns. Go out on the street and have some relaxing fun," Huber said.

The 4-series coupe concept has been getting noticed.

"It takes the 3-series coupe one step further, has more presence. It is more dynamic, more elegance," Huber said.

While it's not yet in production, this is what BMWs of the future might look like.

"Handling will be amazing. It will be a very driving, dynamic car," said Huber.

As for a marketing plan:

"We have a very large community of coupe lovers and they will be interested in having the 4-series coupe," said Huber.

At the top of the line is the M6 Gran Coupe. It costs more than $100,00 but is capable of speeds of nearly 190 miles per hour.

"It's a very fast car, a very beautiful car. I think the customers will love the car," Huber said.

And where are these luxurious cars made?

"Made in Germany, of course!" Huber said proudly.
