GM offers buyout to Grand Blanc workers

(01/22/13) - General Motors is offering buyout packages to workers at a Mid-Michigan plant.

A GM spokesperson tells ABC12 that employees at the Grand Blanc North American Tooling Center, also known as the Weld Tool Center, were notified Tuesday.

The news comes less than a week after GM announced it would close the plant later this year. 343 workers will be affected by the closure. 315 workers are hourly.

According to the Detroit News, 200 skilled trades workers at the Grand Blanc plant and other GM facilities in southeast Michigan will receive the buyout package. It being reported the buyout could be worth up to $65,000. A GM spokesperson declined to give ABC12 an actual dollar amount.

In addition to the buyout incentive, workers were also given the option to transfer to other plants within the company.
