City leaders move forward after GM announced plant closure

GRAND BLANC (WJRT) -

(01/23/12) - A Mid-Michigan community is preparing for life after General Motors.

Last week, GM announced it was closing it's North American Tooling Center, also known as the Grand Blanc Weld Tool Center by the end of June.

Wednesday night, city leaders took the first step to revitalize the property.

The Grand Blanc City Council gave the green light to placing the site in a renaissance zone, meaning tax breaks could be offered to potential companies.

But General Motors still owns the property.

GM would have to  agree to redevelop or sell the land before the plans can move forward.
