FLINT (WJRT) -
(01/28/13) - With heavy rain possible in the next 24 to 36 hours, flooding is a concern for many in our viewing area.
The quick change in temperature, combined with the melting snow and frozen ground, could mean big problems for those who've seen water fill their yards, roads and basements in the past.
ABC12 visited one Mid-Michigan neighborhood where residents experienced some serious flooding back in May.
Although they hope it won't happen again, they're still preparing for the possibility.
"I've got a ditch right here and the water just swirls and if it gets that bad, there's nothing you can do," said Charlie Allen, a Flint resident.
The neighbors who live on Arlene Drive in Flint refer to the area as Lake Arlene.
"Water was all the way up around the tree right here and it was just an island, I had to carry my dogs out there to the Island," Allen said.
The thought of possible flooding this week has Allen wondering if it will be as bad as it was last May in his neighborhood.
He says it was tough for him to get out of his driveway.
"Several times, I've had nothing but water here, in the driveway it would be four or five six inches. All the way up through here, it was all covered with water," he said.
Allen can remember at least five times in the nearly 40 years that he has lived there that the flooding created some problems.
That's why he made some arrangements in the past.
"I had to put everything up in my garage. I put my refrigerator up on blocks and I just make sure everything is picked up so it doesn't happen. I've actually had logs floating through here, I've got a boat but so far I haven't had to have it," he said.
Neighbors have gone to city leaders to address the problem. There have been some adjustments made to the retention pond.
