(02/01/13) - Morley Companies, in Saginaw Township, has announced it has 250
new job openings.
The company had 300 associates in 2009. Soon, it will have more than 1,700 - and
the hiring may not stop there.
In an economy where job growth seems to be difficult, how does Morley keep
adding workers?
"It is a phenomenal story," said Jill Gushow, of Morley Companies.
Last year, the Morley Companies purchased the former At&T building not far away
from their headquarters. 150 people are now working in this building - and they
are not employees.
"We are all associates here at Morley, we are all members of the same team,"
Gushow said.
The head of that team is Lou Furlo Senior, the chairman of the board, who
purchased the company in the 1980s. Some of the newest associates work in
customer service. And now another 250 customer service associates will start in
March in a variety of jobs with a roadside assistance program.
"It's a new program being brought to us from an existing client, a fortune 100
insurance company," Gushow said.
Gushow says the company has grown in tough economic conditions because it offers
a variety of services.
"We have very diverse product lines, we have everything from group travel to
exhibit and trade shows, we have performance improvement," she said. "Our
portfolio now includes 26 Fortune 100 companies."
The hiring isn't just good news for the Saginaw area - the company shuttles
associates from Flint each day on two buses.
"There isn't any better news, it's tremendous," said Saginaw Township supervisor
Tim Braun.
Braun is happy the township's largest employer is adding more jobs, and from his
discussions with Morley's management, even more jobs are possible.
"They have indicated there is a lot of potential for growth and they are working
in a number of areas to grow their company," he said.
