(02/03/13) - A number of Saginaw firefighters and police officers are one step closer to losing their jobs.
The president of the Saginaw Police Officers Association says layoff notices went out on Friday to 21 officers. We don't know how many firefighters will get the notices.
The layoffs take effect June 30.
"The city is holding to what they said, and we believe there are still some cost saving efforts that we can bring forward to avoid some of these layoffs, " said Doug Wortley, President of the Saginaw Police Officers Association.
Saginaw is facing a multi-million dollar deficit.
To close the gap, city leaders are looking into having the Saginaw County Sheriff's Department police the city.
