Flint teens speak up during 'My City, My Future' forum

FLINT (WJRT) -

(02/02/13) - In Flint, some teens are talking tough.

It was all part of the 'My City, My Future' forum at the Flint Public Library Saturday.

"I thought the students did a great job. There was a lot of thought put into the answers to their questions, especially the ones involving Flint and Flint's future, as well as information teens share with other teens and insight for parents," said Wanda Harden, the forum's moderator.

Audience members say the forum gave them good insight into the minds of some of Flint's brightest students.

It was equally as informative for the panelists.

"For me, I know it was a great experience. I got to do things I never did. Talk about things I've never talked about in front of people like this. It was just very different for me," said Jonathan Stozier, one of the panelists.

"I thought it was an opportunity for the youth of our community to say these are the issues that we're faced with, but hey this is what we're going to do to make it better," said another panelist, Willie McClure.

The event was sponsored by the Flint Public Library and the Flint Chapter of the National Pan-Hellenic Council.
