(02/04/13) - Southwest Airlines believes a flight from Flint's Bishop Airport
to Las Vegas is a winning hand. Non-stop service to the popular entertainment
destination will begin in August.
Air travelers will see Southwest replace the AirTran brand at Bishop in
April. Now with east and west bound options, Bishop Airport says it's all about
giving passengers more choices.
"Let's say your destination is Bozeman, somewhere in California, or even
Mexico. When this transition is all done, I think you'll find some good and
affordable connections through Vegas," said Bishop Airport director Jim Rice.
Once the transition from Air Train to Southwest is complete, non-stop flights
to Orlando, Tampa and Baltimore will start in April. That's good news for Sharon
Seeler, a Canadian who crosses the border to fly from Bishop. "I've found the
flights out of here, there's a lot more options on flight and cheaper than Sault
St. Marie Michigan. I usually use Delta, but Southwest is competitively cheaper
especially for something like Vegas or to fly home to Alabama."
Jeff Norrell of Grand Blanc flies the friendly skies several times a year. "I
hear some great things about SW because it eliminates a lot of stress for the
traveler. I'm interested to see how it's going to go with that transition. I
think the community will take better advantage."
Fares were released Monday, so you can start booking now. The schedule will
include one non-stop Vegas flight a day.
