Posted: Updated:

(02/06/13) - Police say a 5-year-old boy and his grandfather were shot during an attempted robbery.

It happened around 8:30 Tuesday night at the grandfather's home in the 2300 block of Baldwin Avenue, in Saginaw County's Buena Vista Township.

Police say the boy's grandfather, grandmother and another man had just arrived home and were in the driveway when the suspect tried to snatch the woman's purse.

There was a struggle, and police say the suspect fire several shots.

One bullet hit the grandfather in the thigh - another went into the house and hit the 5-year-old in the leg.

Both the 5 year old and his 46-year-old grandfather are expected to be OK.

The man was treated and released from the hospital.

The 5 year old underwent surgery for a shattered bone. Police tell us he is still in the hospital.

"This little innocent 5-year-old boy was once again another innocent victim hit by gun fire, but I think he is going to be OK," said Buena Vista Township Police Sgt. Sean Waterman.

Anyone with any information on the shooting is asked to contact the Buena Vista Police Department or its tip line at 989-233-2363.
