SAGINAW (WJRT) -

(02/07/13) - The city of Saginaw is inching closer to a decision involving a contract with the county sheriff department.

To fix a $3 million budget shortfall, they're hoping to have deputies help with patrols.

The county courts and public safety committee met Wednesday and heard from Oakland County's undersheriff.

They've been contracting with the city of Pontiac since 2011, and say it's been great for everyone.

Saginaw's city manager plans to have a contract ready for the sheriff's review next week.

"He wants me to look at it and respond to him if he delivers a contract to me I will give it to my county commissioners. My commissioners have a lot of reading to do from tonight, they'll also want to read any contract and any financial reports they've requested," said William Federspiel, Saginaw County sheriff.

Once everyone has taken a look at the contract, the committee will meet again on March 6.
